The School of Computing offers bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as an interdisciplinary and multi-emphasis doctoral program in computational sciences through the College of Science and Technology. Hattiesburg, MS is about 110 miles from New Orleans, LA, 90 miles from Jackson, MS, 70 miles each from Mobile, AL, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The greater Hattiesburg area has a population of over 100,000. Year-round cultural and social activities take place both on campus and in the city.
Faculty within the school are actively involved in research, including external funded research funded by the U.S. Army, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, NASA, NIH, NSF, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the State of Mississippi, and industry. Within Mississippi, research opportunities exist at Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg MS, and the John C. Stennis Space Center where several federal agencies are co-located.
